....brother were near death in the county hospital and her mother and four other brothers and sisters, all injured in an automobile crash Wednesday night, were reported recovering.

Hospital attendants said William Grootonk 742 York Ct, Mission Beach, was suffering from severe spine injuries, and William Grootonk Jr., 10, incurred a fractured skull.  Little hope was held for the recovery of either.

At Goodbody’s Ivy Chapel, it was announced that a blessing service would be held over the body of Matilda Grootonk at 10 this morning. Other funeral arrangements were being withheld pending recovery of her parents.

The eight members of the family were passengers in an automobile struck by a street car and carried 225 feet on Mission Blvd, at Santa Rita Pl. The girl died a few hours after the crash.
